该中间体在本合成路线中的序号：(V)Demethylation of 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)butanol (I) by means of BBr3 gave phenol (II), which was subsequently protected as the benzyl ether (III) with benzyl bromide and K2CO3. Oxidation of the primary alcohol (III) employing pyridinium chlorochromate yielded aldehyde (IV). Finally, reductive amination of aldehyde (IV) with norepinephrine (V), with concomitant O-debenzylation, was accomplished by hydrogenation in the presence of both PtO2 and Pd/C.
